Here we have Georgette Amélie Sisout, who changed her name to Georgette Bréjean Silver after she married Charles Silver who was either a composer, or perhaps the Lone Ranger's horse.
In 1899 she sang in the premiere of Massenet’s "Cendrillon". She was famed for her performances in Massenet’s "Manon" and "Lakme'' by Delibes.Here she is, on a 10¾" Fonotipia, recorded in Paris 1904/5 This is what you get: Boheme (Puccini): "On m'appelle Mimi" 39181 Xph 650
Manon (Massenet): "Fabliau" ("Oui dans les bois") 39225 Xph 679 The accompaniment is provided by a strangely hesitant pianist, (could it be Mme Silver herself?) who appears to be using an instrument much more in tune than the usual Fonotipia honky tonk. It's a nice clean copy that plays very well indeed without blasting or click or clonk. It's not one of her rarest records, but it is rare to find one in such nice clean condition. The label looks a bit dull, but Hey! you don't play the label. Let's call it, with reference to our beloved VJM grading system, somewhere round about a strong V+ near as darn it, more or less. Buy now, before the inevitable apocalypse (expected sometime after next Bonfire Night).
