Fortune 802 by Henry Smith on guitar: Dog Me Blues b/w Clarence Posey piano: Rockin Chair Blues. Detroit blues. This is a very rare, hard to find guitar and piano blues 78. Henry Smith recorded one other great record in the early 50s on the Dot label, but this is pianist Clarence Posey's only known recording! Two excellent postwar county blues sides, on the iconic Fortune label from Detroit! These two artists were most likely in their 40s or 50s when they recorded these 2 sides, so they would have developed their musical styles during the late 20s and 1930s prewar blues era. The music on this 78 is a mixture of the old prewar style, adapted to the new era circa 1949. It's a remarkable snapshot of the kind of music older blues musicians in Detroit were playing, for paying customers, in bars, clubs, juke joints and house parties. Henry Smith and Clarence Posey probably played in one of those bars Detroit Count talks about in "Hastings Street Opera".
