redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Columbia Masterworks (MS 6572, US pressing, gray/black “360 Sound” label (grooved) – ED1, stereo) features Zino Francescatti and Robert Casadesus’ supremely eloquent renditions of three Beethoven Violin Sonatas, warmly recorded in Paris in October 1962.
The exact contents are as follows, all works by Ludwig van Beethoven:
Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major Op. 12 No. 2
Violin Sonata No. 6 in A Major Op. 30 No. 1
Violin Sonata No. 8 in G Major Op. 30 No. 3
How refreshing to hear two soloists so wonderfully matched, each inspiring the other to even greater heights of imagination and expression. To hear Casadesus’ pianism is surely as equal a job as Francescatti’s fiddling.
This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the violin (and piano!) will find much to savor here. The sound is absolutely first rate.
There are erudite and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by James Goodfriend, provided in English only. The memorable cover photo of Francescatti and Casadesus was taken by Don Hunstein.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. The only flawing barring a NM grading concers some minor wear to the lower edge. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not completely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is superb. However, if you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – this is a lovely collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
