Description
Very early announced sides by the pioneer Yiddish recording artist Frank Seiden on the obscure American Record Company label! According to Alan Sutton’s discography, this record was first listed in late 1904.
"Frank Seiden (Yiddish: אפרים זײדען, Efraim Zeyden) (July 20, 1860 – May 16, 1931), who sometimes went by the stage name Professor Seiden, was a professional magician, Badchen, vaudeville entertainer, barber, and Yiddish-language recording artist of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Frank became known as a street magician, fire eater, Punch and Judy man, and ventriloquist..... At the turn of the century Seiden became involved in the recording industry; in the 1900 census he listed his occupation as "phonograph dealer."[6] In 1901 he made his first Wax cylinder recordings of Yiddish songs for Columbia, becoming one of the first Jewish recording artists in the United States, alongside William Dory, Solomon Smulewitz, and a handful of other pioneers.[1]
The record has some scuffs and wear and an edge flake not into the grooves. It plays surprisingly well for being 121 years old! Please refer to the photos and video and reach out if you have any questions. Offers welcome. I will happily combine shipping for multiple items. Thanks for your interest!
