Description
Frank Sinatra - The Capitol Years Capitol Records C1-94777 Released December 13, 1990 as a 5-LP "deluxe limited edition."
Here is a prized and rare item I've gotten to enjoy in my collection: Frank Sinatra's "Capitol Years" box set. Released just in time for Christmas 1990 and mastered by the great Wally Traugott, this set celebrated Sinatra's 75th birthday with 75 tracks documenting his time with Capitol from 1953 to 1962. Starting with "I've Got the World on a String" and ending with "I've Got a Right to Sing the Blues," this set chronicles his continued development as a crooner, jazz interpreter, pop phenomenon, and tastemaker. The tracks include an even mix of monaural and stereo content, and feature items rediscovered in Capitol's vaults just in time for the set's digital remaster. This album is unique in that it came at an odd juncture for vinyl: LPs were still considered conventional as a format in 1990 but were also restricted in terms of pressing numbers, with limited availability at shops making them seem both familiar and like yesterday's format at the same time. Only around 5,000 copies of this set may have made it out on LP, if contemporary trends held true with its production, so this one's a unique rarity.
Here is a side-by-side breakdown of the condition of each record. I've added clear innersleeves to afford the records added protection, and most of the content sounds great on my setup even with a few imperfections due to handling prior to my acquisition of this set. Record 1: both sides VG+ to VG++. A few very light non-sounding marks visible. Record 2: side 1 would rate VG+ except for a scratch on the third track, "(Love is) The Tender Trap," that may cause a skip. (I have used a stylus with this album that was able to make it through this scratch, which looks to be a careless needle-pull mid-play or needle-drop by accident, but your mileage will likely vary.) Side 2 rates VG++ with a light non-sounding mark present. Record 3: side 1 VG+ and side 2 VG++, with a few light marks present that shouldn't interfere with the listening experience. Record 4: side 1 VG++ and side 2 NM, with limited signs of handling and pristine sound. Record 5: side 1 VG+ (one visible non-sounding scratch and a few tiny marks that looks like light fingerprints), side 2 NM (looks and sounds pristine).
The box comes with the original booklet, which has the same dimensions as a CD or cassette longbox case from the era. The booklet is in at least VG+ condition, with some very light fingerprinting on the front cover. The box itself is VG++, free from any wear and discolouration, and it includes the original "deluxe limited edition" sticker on the back cover that would have been on the packaging's shrinkwrap. This sticker does have a small amount of invisible tape applying it to the box (with a bit of residue in two spots on its top surface), and it's a bit tattered along its top with a small fold in the bottom right corner, but it otherwise looks fine.
Shipping will cost $8.00 via Media Mail, in a large box with plenty of bubble wrap for protection. Happy buying!

"Quality items at reasonable prices from an eccentric merchant!"
As a math teacher and long-time record buyer with a definite passion for both vocations, I am excited to continue to make available LPs I have collected over the last twenty-six years but now need to winnow from my shelves. The items I will be posting include quite a range of genres and interests - soundtracks, specialty records, and albums ranging from the typical mainstream to the unexpectedly weird. Check back often to see what surprises I've got in store!
Please note my conditions of sale:
-I use Goldmine standards to rate my albums, and I seek to do so conservatively. Items will often receive both a visual check and a playgrade, so that I can review the material one last time and also listen for any differences between audible quality and my visual perception of an album's surface. If there are any potential flaws in an item, I will make sure you know about those upfront. As a rule, I will not attempt to sell records that rate below VG for the total package (unless the item in question is rare or hard to come by). Because I deal largely in used stock and will be thorough in explaining an item's condition, please note that all sales are "as is" and final - returns are not accepted.
-I ship through USPS services to destinations in the U.S. only. All records will be packed sturdily with quality outer cardboard, with records and innersleeves removed from jackets to avoid seam splits on used items. Because of the demands of my work schedule, shipments typically go out twice a week, by Wednesday (for albums paid for during the previous weekend) and by Saturday (for all later payments). Whenever possible, I crank out shipments faster than this, so rest assured you'll get your order quickly.
-I will accept payments for items through PayPal only. You will be prompted to pay at the time of purchase. Please do not bid or commit to buy if you don't intend to follow through with a payment.
-Shipping will be at cost to the buyer, through Media Mail. I charge a starting fee of $5.75 for one single-disc album, then 75 cents per each additional LP in your order.
-I will always be willing to combine shipping on multiple wins/purchases. Just make sure to request an invoice prior to completing your purchase.
-A word to the wise on how I consider best offers: I often accept offers up to 30% below the listing value for my items. Please avoid lowball offers!
-The bottom line: I will make every attempt to insure your satisfaction as my customer. Let me know of any problems prior to posting negative or neutral feedback, as this will help me to refine my services and better serve my fellow record collectors out there. Enjoy!
