Lawrence Wayne "Wild Man" Fischer war ein US-amerikanischer Straßenperformer, der in den 60ern auf dem Sunset Strip in West Hollywood einen gewissen Kultstatus mit seinen krummen, launischen "new kinds of songs" erlangte, die er für je einen "dime" zum Besten gab.

1968 begegnete ihm Frank Zappa un begann, sich für seine Musik zu interessieren, lud ihn letztlich ein, mit den Mothers aufzutreten, und nahm mit Fischer dieses Album mit dessen A Capella-Songs auf.
Einer davon ("The Taster") wurde von den Mothers Of Invention mit Musik versehen, Zappa kreierte mit "Circle" ein düsteres kleines psychedelisches Meisterwerk, indem er alleine alle Instrumente dazu aufnahm, und Art Tripp fügte den Straßen-Aufnahmen vom Sunset Strip Percussion und andere Klangeffekte hinzu.
Letzten Endes kam es zum Zerwürfnis zwischen Zappe und Fischer, überlieferterweise, nachdem dieser ein Glas nach Zappas kleiner Tochter geworfen hatte.

Jahrelang, bis zum Tod Gail Zappas 2016, gab es keine Wiederveröffentlichung dieses Albums, und die jetzt erhältliche ist leider nur von einer LP des Albums überspielt worden - dies hier ist also nach wie vor die "wahre" Ausgabe.

Dies ist ein Dokument des Wahnsinns von Wild Man Fischer - man muß es nicht mögen, man kann es hassen, manche (wie ich) lieben es. Es ist ein sehr lustiges und kraftvolles Album.

Lawrence Wayne "Wild Man" Fischer was an American street performer known in the 60s for offering erratic, acapella performances of "new kinds of songs" for a dime each on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.

In 1968, Zappa stumbled upon him and became interested in his music, eventually inviting him to perform on stage with the Mothers, and recording and releasing this double LP of the singer's a capella songs.
One of them was backed by the Mothers Of Invention ("The Taster"), Zappa turned "Circle" into a dark psychedelic masterpiece, overdubbing a whole band played by himself, and Art Tripp added percussion and other sound effects to the field recordings, which were made on Sunset Strip.
Eventually, Zappa and Fischer fell out, reportedly after Fischer throwing a glass jar at Zappa's daughter, and their ways parted.

For years, until Gail Zappa's death in 2016, there was no reissue of this album, and the recent reissue was sadly dubbed from a vinyl copy, so this is still the real thing!

This is a document of the madness of Wild Man Fischer - you don't have to like it, you may hate it, some (including myself) love it. It's a very funny and powerful album.
