UNCLE MEAT
(UK TRANSATLANTIC, TRA 197, 1969)
Nice copy of this RARE Zappa album! Early UK pressings of Mothers albums are hard to find but this is by far the rarest in my opinion! This does NOT come with a booklet, most UK pressings did not have booklets, only some of the very early ones came with imported booklets from the US pressing and some also came with a slightly different booklet which was made for their European tour, but that's another story... In the States, Bizarre were distributed by Reprise but when the UK headquarters of Reprise (who were distributed by Pye here at the time) heard this album they freaked out and refused to release it, due to the swearing on some of the dialogue. Transatlantic were the only label that were prepared to release it, and thank the Lord they did! It is a beautiful pressing, and sounds great, and the grooves are also banded, unlike any other pressing of this album. It sold in very small numbers over here at the time, and was not repressed again until years later. There was only one pressing on the Transatlantic label! This is becoming harder and harder to find now! Don't miss out!
Disc 1 is in EX(+) condition : has a few very light marks and sounds great
Disc 2 is in VG+ condition : looks and sounds great overall, but there are 3 heat marks at the beginning of side 3 which cause crackle during the first minute and a half or so of Mr Green Genes and 1 heat mark at the beginning of side 4 which causes crackle during the first minute or so of King Kong, hence the downgrading. I have tried my best to photograph the heat marks but it has proved very difficult, you can see them in the last photograph
Gatefold sleeve is in VG+ condition : in nice shape, downgraded a little due to tape residue on the spine on both sides (see pics) and at the opening, there is also still some sellotape at the opening (see pic) - I have not attempted to remove any of the residue or tape but I'm sure it can be done, apart from this the sleeve has just some light ring wear and the edges and spine have some light wear
