Description
Title: Uncle Meat (by Frank Zappa, 1969)
Subtitle: (Most of the Music from the Mother's Movie of the Same Name Which We Haven't Got Enough Money to Finish Yet)
This is an original, two LP Vinyl Gatefold 1969 release by Bizarre/Warner Bros-7 Arts/Reprise 2024 with unique, original disk sleeves and large mint condition book. (See pictures)
- The book is in excellent -- NM condition. (See pictures.)
- The cover is VG+ with minor rubs, spine wear, and a couple of edge breaks. (See pictures.)
- LPs are both original Bizarre blue labels... quite rare. Condition is VG+.
Personal Note: I have a collection of 64 Zappa CDs from all periods of his incredible career. I rate this album/collection as one of the top two (the other being The Best Band You Never Heard, from the mid 80's).
This Wikipedia article titled "Uncle Meat" describes what's so great about this release and why it's so historically important (my bold added):
"For the recording sessions [October '67 - February '68], Zappa utilized 12 track recording technology, as well as a variety of techniques which realized his vision, including a large number of overdubs, playing unconventional instruments through studio effects, and speeding up or slowing down recordings for artistic effect. Zappa wanted to make an album that would challenge the complacency of contemporary music fans... Uncle Meat featured a variety of music styles, including orchestral symphonies, free jazz, blues, doo wop and rock and roll. The album also contains spoken word segments featuring Suzy Creamcheese, and features a stronger focus on percussion instrumentation than previous works by Zappa, as well as emphasizing his strengths as a composer and arranger..."
Another collector who auctioned one of these a couple of years ago at ebay said, "The Mothers of Invention's Uncle Meat [is] arguably their most musically satisfying album. Wild, silly, precociously inventive, and above all - fiercely JAZZY." I absolutely agree!
