Description
Sonny Wilson: Troubled Times / Lonely Nights
Plaza PZ-1 US 1961
- released in August 1961 - this is a rare one, lots on the Candix label...but not many on Plaza
- produced by Paul Buff and John Fisher
- Sonny Wilson was an Elvis-styled vocalist, Sonny recorded a single for the Sun label 'The Great Pretender' as his debut release
- Sonny Wilson's backing band sometimes included Paul Buff and Dave Aerni (who started producing with Frank Zappa that time) and they played local bars when not recording. This extra money was esential for Buff to keep his label going.
- 'Troubled Times' was first issued on Buff's Plaza label before an edited version was licensed to Candix.
- 'Lonely Nights' is the song that Frank Zappa loved and mentioned in interviews, but he mistakenly called it 'Lonely Lips'. This was the only song from the recording session licensed to Candix that was not reissued on the label. Candix instead went with 'I Ain't Giving Up Nothing' and 'Troubled Times' as their single pairing.
