The Frankie Stein & His Ghouls records from the mid-60s are probably the coolest Halloween albums I've ever come across. The artwork is fantastic, the music is endearingly corny, but played really well (pretty much just generic-sounding surf rock, but it was obviously played by pro session folks like the Wrecking Crew or similar), and it's loaded with classic, goofy sound effects. If you dig the vibe of 60s Halloween stuff, it doesn't get much better than this.
Condition: VG/VG.
Cover has no splits, light edge wear, and is in pretty great shape for a kids record from the 60s! There's some minor wear on the top front cover, and there's some age-related spotting and yellowing (most evident on the back and along the edges) and writing on the back. There's also a "#4" on the front on the mummy's face but it's hard to see unless you're looking for it. Other than that, colors on the cover are vibrant and contrast is strong.
The vinyl really looks great -- only a handful of marks on the surface that are barely apparent. It has a great sheen that I couldn't capture in the photos, but it definitely doesn't look like it's been played very much, and was probably handled by the adults and not the kids. Labels are solid with hardly any spindle marks. The record has been play tested, and it sounds great -- minimal surface noise noticeable between tracks and in quiet passages, but plays strong with no skips and is an enjoyable listen.
These records are really rare, and those that do turn up usually aren't in the greatest condition, considering they were mostly handled by kids at Halloween parties. This is a solid looking and sounding copy that'll make a great addition to your record and/or Halloween collection!
