Description

If one can get over the pretentiousness of Of Franklin Mint's titling this collection as “The 100 Greatest Recordings of All Time”... I mean really, did time stop after these 1982 pressings? Can they really include Bach's Goldberg Piano Variations without Glenn Gould? No doubt, this is nit picking … But if one can get over it, this is an assembly of excellent to outstanding performances.

Remastering details by Franklin Mint's hired engineers, outside of their promotional literature, is a little sketchy. But most listeners maintain that many of the recordings show sonic improvements from the original pressings – certainly none are worse off. Part of this may be well be due to the weight of the vinyl coming in at 160 grams as opposed to the 130 gram average at the time of manufacture. The translucent, ox blood-red poly-vinyl composition is purported to be infused with an anti-static agent.


39 of the 50 (two-record) library cases in this set are sealed – never played. The 11 others from the same set appear to have been played either once, twice or not at all.

The opened library sets are the first seven (records 1 thru 14); 27/28; 87/88; 89/90 & 99/100.

Includes the often missing cross-reference index.


Shipping, notwithstanding eBay's forced $4 autofill for media shipments, will be a total of $60 for four boxes – Media Mail - Tracking and Insurance.

Pick-ups for this collection are fine. But do let me know your intentions before the end of the auction so that if you were to win, I would know to amend the invoice less the shipping and those attendant charges.

Because of the extraordinary costs of shipping this lot, and the sets New and NM+ condition, I cannot offer returns on this auction.
