Freddie Hubbard – Polar AC 1975 US CTI Gatefold Jazz, Funk / Soul
Frederick Dewayne Hubbard was an American jazz trumpeter. He played bebop, hard bop, and post-bop styles from the early 1960s onwards. His unmistakable and influential tone contributed to new perspectives for modern jazz and bebop. 'Polar AC' is a compilation album and was his final album released on Creed Taylor's CTI label and features performances by Hubbard, Hubert Laws, George Benson, Junior Cook, and Ron Carter. It was put together by CTI after Hubbard left the label to go to Columbia, and the tracks were recorded at different sessions, between 1971 and 1973. The album featured pieces: "People Make the World Go Round" and "Betcha, By Golly Wow", recorded both on April 12, 1972, and "Son of Sky Dive" recorded around 1973. "Polar AC" (aka "Fantasy in D" and "Ugetsu") came from First Light sessions, whilst "Naturally" was recorded during Sky Dive sessions.
The custom printed laminated (outside only) gatefold card sleeve would certainly conservatively grade as EX+. It shows little sign of handling and storage wear (minimal corner rubbing and bumping) with minimal ring and a little edge wear. The spine is readable and the entry edge shows minimal signs of use.
The original CTI paper inner is undamaged. Graded as EX+.
The vinyl is without doubt EX+ to NM and has not been played much - if at all. The CTI labels are unmarked apart from a hint of a spindle mark. On play grading there was a little light crackle on the run in on both sides but nothing substantial, maybe a rare pop or click (certainly nothing to spoil the enjoyment of the record - even at high volume), during the remainder of the album. It plays superbly with very strong audio. The surface is very clean, glossy and shiny with no noticeable marks apart from the odd fingerprint, a superb copy that conservatively grades as EX+.
