Up for auction today is "Let's Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King," Freddie King's 1961 debut LP on King Records. It was the label that literally gave the man his name. King was left-handed and played right-handed guitars flipped upside down without restringing, with the high strings on top. That upside-down attack is a huge part of why his phrasing sounds like no one else before or since. The title track became one of the defining blues guitar instrumentals of the era, later covered by Eric Clapton on the Bluesbreakers LP and played by countless guitarists who never knew whose tune they were borrowing. Freddie stands alongside B.B. and Albert as one of the Three Kings of the electric blues guitar — and this is where his recorded story begins.
The vinyl grades VG (conservatively graded). There is a couple marks but other than that it plays fantastic (plays VG+) Glossy surface, honest player. The cover grades VG+ (an EX or a VG++) crisp, bright, and clean, with one tiny tear on the back that has been photographed and disclosed in full. A beautiful copy of a cornerstone blues guitar LP.
