ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP – in a Red Stereo jacket – from Deutsche Grammophon (SLPM 138 125, German pressing, AH tulip label, stereo recording) features Ferenc Fricsay and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra's beautifully pointed and vital accounts of Mozart's Symphonies No. 39 in E-flat Major K. 543 and No. 40 in G minor K. 550, both recorded in the warm acoustics of the Grosser-Saal, the Musikverein, Vienna on 26 November 1959. Fricsay was one of the supreme Mozart conductors of the last century and this powerful and poetic performances show just whay – buoyant, infectious, and quite thrilling – DG's sound is superb throughout.

 

Incidentally, the lovely cover art reprints a lithograph of "Die KK Residenz" by R. Alt. There are exellent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket – printed in German, English, and French.

 

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

 

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as slight edgewear and mild discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.

 

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really this is a very fine copy and playback is truly superb. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
