Description
Original 1971 U.S. pressing of Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain on Westbound Records, WB 2007, complete with its original gatefold/Unipak-style cover. Early -1A / -1A matrices on both sides.
Deadwax / Matrix:
• Side 1: WB-2007-A-1A / CANADIAN LTD. / additional M Hc-style mark
• Side 2: WB-2007-B-1A / CANADIAN LTD. / same additional mark / A4
Vinyl: VG visually — plays considerably better in substantial portions.
The vinyl shows a number of visible light surface marks, hairlines and scratches consistent with a VG visual grade. The record has been play-tested all the way through, and the actual playback is notably strong.
Play test:
Side 1 / “Maggot Brain”: Some intermittent surface crackle is audible during the particularly quiet and exposed portions of the title track. The crackle is not continuous. The opening vocals sound very clean, and once Eddie Hazel’s guitar comes in, playback becomes notably clean and clear. The guitar has excellent clarity and presence, with surface noise not competing with the music during the louder passages.
Side 2: Plays similarly clean and is noticeably louder and more immediate following the spacious title track. Playback remains clear, with no significant surface noise interfering with the music.
By my ear, this is a particularly hi-fi sounding copy, with impressive clarity, detail and presence. Overall, the record plays considerably better than its visible surface marks might suggest.

Original cover shows substantial age and handling wear, including rubbing/scuffing, edge and corner wear, creasing and other wear visible in the photos. The artwork remains very presentable for its age, and the gatefold interior presents considerably better than the exterior. Please examine all photos closely for the exact condition.
A very enjoyable playing copy of an original early pressing of one of Funkadelic’s landmark albums, with the desirable 1A/1A deadwax configuration and a detailed full-album play test.
