ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and very rare LP from Vox (PL 7210, US pressing, black/silver label) features a (in)famous Furtwangler LP issued by the American label in 1951 and then withdrawn due to legal action by the conductor. The LP preserves his legendary wartime account of Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat Major Op. 60, broadcast on 27 June 1943 (not 1945 as erroneously stated on the back of the jacket), a performance of great power and intensity.

 

Incidentally, the striking cover art was executed by the great Herschel Levit. The reverse side of the jacket contains insightful liner notes by Charles Stanley, printed in English only.

 

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

 

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, particularly at corners and shelfwear, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – a very good collector's copy.

 

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Visually, there are rubs, papers sleeve and other non-sounding marks. In terms of sound, although the surfaces are not silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is quite good, particularly for an LP that is now 66 years old.

 

There are moments of peak distortion and occasional needle-like sounds, but one can clearly hear the hall and the sound has tremendous amplitude and impact. However, if you must have a flawless or near-MINT copy, please do not buy this LP. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
