This handsome LP from Italian HMV · La Voce del Padrone (QALP 10387, Italian pressing, red/silver semi-circle label – ED1, mono) features Wilhelm Furtwangler and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's magnificent renditions of Beethoven's Symphonies No. 1 in C Major Op. 21 and No. 4 in B-flat Major Op. 60, landmark performances almost 60 years on.

The former was recorded on 24, 27, and 28 November 1952, while the latter was set down during 1 to 3 December 1952, all sessions held in the glowing acoustics of the Musikvereinssaal, Vienna (producer Lawrence Collingwood / engineer: Robert Becket).

In lieu of liner notes, the reverse side of the jacket carries a listing of Furtwangler’s other albums with the VPO to be found on La Voce del Padrone. The striking cover photo of Furwtangler is uncredited.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the laminated flipback jacket is EXCELLENT. The only real flaws concern some discoloration and mild ringwear. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very striking in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Visually, the LP only looks EX (there are spindle trails and non-sounding marks to the vinyl. In terms of sound, however, playback is NM. Surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. This is a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
