This beautiful LP from La Voix de son Maitre (FALP 260, French pressing, red/silver semi-circle label – ED1, mono, glossy laminated flipback jacket) features Wilhelm Furtwangler and the Vienna Philharmonic's powerful account of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor Op. 67, recorded in the Musikvereinsaal on 28 February and 1 March 1954 (producer: Lawrence Collingwood / engineer: Francis Dillnutt) – a stunning account.
Wrote John Ardoin in his indispensible The Furtwängler Record:
"Though the performance is very stately, Furtwangler nonetheless manages here to draw a greater intensity from the Viennese and to create a greater linear concentration (especially on bass lines) than in Stockholm [also with the VPO, in 1950]...and the finale is delivered with an extremely deliberate and majestic stride; even its coda is cooled a few degrees."
Incidentally, the striking cover art was executed by Creation Publicis. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Henry Barraud, printed in French only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the glossy laminated flipback jacket is VERY GOOD. There is bumping and wear at corners, as well as light edgewear in general, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects, and whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is light surface noise throughout, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
