Arthur Fiedler was a long-time conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, a symphony orchestra that specializes in popular and light classical music. With a combination of musicianship and showmanship, he made the Boston Pops one of the best-known orchestras in the country.
Jacques Offenbach was a German-born French composer, cellist and impresario of the romantic period. He is remembered for his nearly 100 operettas of the 1850s–1870s and his uncompleted opera The Tales of Hoffmann. He was a powerful influence on later composers of the operetta genre, particularly Johann Strauss, Jr. and Arthur Sullivan. His best-known works were continually revived during the 20th century, and many of his operettas continue to be staged in the 21st.

This pressing of Gaite Parisienne is rather unusual, in that it is a two-disc set, rather than the typical four discs that Classic generally offered. This is not the complete album, but rather a 2-disc set of excerpts from the album, cut at 45 RPM and pressed on two single-sided, 180 gram discs for optimum sound quality. This is an early pressing; each disc is in a printed cover that duplicates the original cover from the 1958 RCA release.
