Description
Here’s an extremely RARE ( one only?) 8” acetate on the GAITY record label out of Minneapolis. This record plays at 78rpm and has songs on both sides.
The group recorded here is The Quarter Notes and they perform “ Come To Me” b/w “That’s Your Mistake” . I believe “That’s Your Mistake” was originally released by Otis Williams in 1955. So I’m guessing this record was cut after that.

If you read the write-up and in the audio of David’s first interview—-he sites The Quarter Notes as the FIRST group he recorded when he started the GAITY label.
I’ve searched the web & cannot find any info on these songs from this group. A “one & only” cutting by David??
I’m pretty sure this 8” record is a metal acetate but it does have some issues. First of which is a flaw/defect more pronounced on the “Come To Me” side at the beginning/edge. This extends about a quarter of the way into the grooves. It doesn’t seem to affect the flip-side as much. Also, possible water damage as seen on the label (doesn’t affect play) & on the AUDIODISC sleeve. The paper sleeve is very damaged but still hold the record.
Visual condition: a nice VG with the mentioned flaw. There still is a nice shine to the vinyl (?) and no other scratches/marks that I can see.
I could only give it a test play on an old NEWCOMB PS 62 record player with the 78rpm needle. Even on this player—-I could not get past the mentioned flaw on the “Come To Me” side. Possible a better turntable with better tracking might work. SEE VIDEO
