What a classic by the then star of the Tropicalistas, Gal Costa! "Índia" opened up a completely new chapter in Costa's career and shines so timeless and modern that it even anticipates some of the music of Marisa Monte, released 20 years later!
"AllMusic" gives five stars to this album and raves: "some of the lushest, most sophisticated, and most complex arrangements of her career. Her voice is clear and inviting as always, sitting perfectly with the strings, accordions, horns, reeds, and percussion that swirl around, effortlessly punctuating the romance in every track. With Gilberto Gil alongside on acoustic guitar and musical director, the arrangements definitely glow with his polyphonic personality, but these songs have a feel all their own -- sounding as if they blossomed out of necessity and the sharp edge of elegance."
Besides Gilberto Gil we have here Dominguinhos, Toninho Horta, Chico Batera, Roberto Menescal, Wagner Tiso and Rogerio Duprat among the contributors, and Caetano Veloso, Luiz Melodia and Antonio Carlos Jobim among the composers.
Rare original Brazil LP. Gatefold cover has a tear in the left down corner of the back cover, otherwise the cover is absolutely flawless = E- ; the insert is still there! The labels have some small residue from stickers, nothing serious.
Tracks 1 and 4 on side 1 of the record have crackling that is evident, Tracks 2 and 3 are alright ; side 2 of the record is excellent throughout, only the last track has some light surface noise = VG+

Grading and comments on sound are purely my opinion and therefore subjective. The same record/LP may sound different on another system or setup. Please contact me with any questions. All of my records are carefully packed in sturdy cardboard mailers. I will add two cardboard supports, and the record will be out of sleeve to prevent seam splits.
