Description
Hi, This is a "Buy It Now" listing for a curious GARY NUMAN UK test press 7". It's of 1980's "I DIE: YOU DIE" single on Beggars Banquet. BEG 46 catalogue number... It doesn't come with a picture sleeve.
The curious bit is that I was doing some detective work on this record and it seems there is a very rare alternate mix marked A1 with a machine stamped word "STRAWBERRY" in the play out grooves. This is NOT it as "Strawberry" is scratched in by hand so I think it looks like 1 or 2 other possibly dubious variations that have surfaced and gone for much less money. The full play out grooves say: SIDE A: BEG46A1 wea t/p strawberry SIDE B: BEG46B1 wea t/p strawberry. All in close up bunched up handwriting, no machine stamped words anywhere.
I have tried photographing the matrix grooves but I just can't get a good clear result, I do apologise.
The white label has "BEG46" and "A" written in pencil and has the very light / feint sign of silver text underneath the label, like another 7" record label has been turned upside down and the white side used. It has little splindle marks around the middle hole where you put the record on the turntabgle so someone has definitely played it a bit but despite this it is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.
I bought both of these that a guy had at Cuffley Car Boot in Herts alongside some other interesting singles like Demos and Test Pressings from The Associates, Lloyd Cole, The Pretenders and Elvis Costello. But these stood out as although I am not a fan, I know Gary Numan stuff can go crazy here!!! He said he got them from an old Radio Station collection or was a DJ there himself, I can't remember now.
I have set a price that I think is fair, it's not the very rare version I have come to the conclusion, but even this on the popsike website has gone for high ££. Also, I picked up 2- I think I have more chance of winning the lottery that finding 2 of the rare version!!
