GATO BARBIERI QUARTET – In Search of the Mystery (1967) ESP-1049 – Strong VG+/EX (cover/vinyl)
Really rare and killer early avant / free jazz session by Gato Barbieri before he became popular but after he had established his sax playing as part of Don Cherry’s Blue Note group. He’s joined by Calo Scott on cello, Norris Jones on bass and Bobby Kapp on drums. The tracks are “In Search of Mystery,” “Michelle,” “Obsession No. 2,” and “Cinemateque.” Recorded in New York.
This is a nice copy. The cover is clean with only slight wear, and there’s a 2-inch seam split in the middle of the bottom seam. The custom art label vinyl is beautiful and glossy with only slight sleeve scuffs – super clean and nice. I grade this conservatively: Strong VG+/EX (cover/vinyl).
