GENE AMMONS – LATE HOUR SPECIAL – PRESTIGE 7287 – M- - YELLOW & BLACK LABEL - MONO

There are two Van Gelder sessions on this Prestige LP. The first, recorded on June 13, 1961 features Gen Ammons on tenor, accompanied by Clark Terry and Hobart Dodson on trumpets, Oliver Nelson on alto, Red Holloway and George Barrow on tenor, Bob Ashton on baritone, Richard Wyands on piano, Wendell Marshall on bass and Bill English on drums. They perform: THINGS AIN’T WHAT THEY USED TO BE; I WANT TO BE LOVED; LULLABY OF THE LEAVES and MAKIN’ WHOOPIE. The second session, recorded on April 13, 1962 features Gene Ammons on tenor with Patti Bown on piano, George Duvivier on bass and Walter Perkins on drums. They play: THE PARTY’S OVER; LASCIVIOUS and SOFT WINDS. On both sides of the blank vinyl is stamped “VAN GELDER”. This is a Mono Recording.

I have rated this Prestige LP as M- for the following reasons. Both sides of the vinyl are clean of any marks. There is no sign of wear on either side of the spindle hole. The record jacket shows no sign of wear on the front and the liner notes are clean. There are no taped seams.
