Gene Vincent ~ Unreleased Jezebel / Rip it up CAPITOL DEMO 78 rpm SOUTH AFRICA
This is, as far as we can tell, an unreleased combination of "Jezebel / Rip it up" on what we believe to be a
South-African 78 rpm. It came to us with several dozen South-African 78's and the odd demo/sample also
from South Africa, so it seems very likely. Comes in a plain brown paper outer (we provide extra card
sleeve).
Both sides have lots of superficial light marks, though none appear to be play wear as such.
The rip it up side has four marks that may well have been put there deliberately judging from their even
position, possibly to indicate which side to play (or avoid playing, making it even more likely to be South
African in origin, a common practise in censorship). None of the marks on either side affect the playback,
which is remarkably clean, very little background, pops or clicks even on the quieter Jezebel track. Not
perfect, but very clean sounding and certainly not over-played.
There's no reference to this combination of titles released anywhere worldwide to our knowledge, Jezebel
released on single as the flipside to"Maybe", as the Flipside to Be-bop-a-lula on a Brazilian 78, and came
out on 78 as an A-side in South Africa with "Wedding Bells" on the flipside. So possibly unique in this
form.
