Outstanding example of this classic album.
Not only does this have the cleanest 1st press cover I have ever seen, it also includes the very rare insert. Only the very earliest copies have this insert - the album was released on 18th November 1974 and the insert includes details of a competition with a closing date of 1st January 1975!
The labels say 'Marketed by B&C' and the runouts have the following 1st press matrix numbers:
Side 2: CG 1 B-2U
Side 3: CG 2 A-2U
The run-outs are also etched with PORKY + JOHNNIE, PECKO, PECKO and PORKY.
Detailed description
Gatefold cover: This is the original first press cover printed by Bruin B.V. in Holland. It has been kept in a PVC sleeve from new and is therefore near perfect. There are one or two tiny marks and some minor signs of use, but I have never seen a better one.
Edge wear: There is virtually no wear to the edges as it has been kept in a PVC sleeve from new. The spine is solid and firm and the text is all 100% readable. There are just very light signs of use at the openings.
Corner wear: minimal
Inner sleeves: These are the original matching pair of inner sleeves - both made from card with a protruding edge on one side. [ On some later issues the card was replaced by thick paper and on some later card copies the protruding edge is absent (the sides are even), so watch out for copies where the inner sleeves are not a matching pair! ]. This pair are in superb condition with a few minor marks and slight shaping around the disk, but no splits, tears or damage, just some slight wrinkles at the edges and a small crease on the corner of the protruding edge of CG1.
Insert: This is the rare original insert with the record number (CGS 101) printed at the bottom. It is in perfect condition and looks like it has never been out of the cover.
Vinyl: The vinyl looks great and has retained its original high sheen. It has clearly been well cared for and not played too much. Under bright light, side one has hardly any marks - just a few whispy sleeve-removal trails - sides two and three had some hairlines and fine marks (slightly more on side three), and side four has a few more-noticeable lines and marks, but there is nothing significant anywhere. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway can be very hard to find with decent audio - there were some quality issues with the initial pressings, the rigid inner sleeves were unforgiving and often took their toll on the playing surfaces and the wide variety of sound (various very quiet sections and some sparsely arranged instrumental tracks etc) make it very hard to find a copy which plays really well all the way through. I have played this copy all the way through (all four sides) listening intently through headphones and it sounds excellent. There is some background noise and crackle which can be heard in the quiet parts and the run-ins/outs, fades, silent grooves and intros and the occasional random click. There are a handful of places where you get a short-lived soft click, but there is nothing which lasts longer than a few revolutions except for about half-a-dozen soft clicks in 'The Lamia', about eight clicks in the fade to 'The Raven' and some soft crackly clicks in the very quiet instrumental 'Ravine', but there is absolutely nothing loud or persistent anywhere. Some of the quiet instrumental pieces such as 'Hairless Heart', 'The Waiting Room', 'Silent sorrow in Empty Boats', and in particular the quiet intro to 'The Colony of Slippermen', and 'Ravine' on side four play with some audible background noise, simply because they are so quiet, but all the loud parts sound superb with much of the album play-grading Near Mint. Overall, this sounds excellent and was a real pleasure to listen to. Many parts play-grade Near Mint (NM) but other parts, particularly the quieter sections, grade lower. Overall I would play-grade all four sides around Excellent (Ex) with side four just slightly under.
Labels: The labels look superb with absolutely no signs of damage, writing, stickers etc and just light spindle marking, suggesting that the records weren't played too much. Judging by the spindle trails, disk two appears to have been played less than disk one. (Note the thin piece of vinyl residue still in the centre hole for disk one, which also suggests that the record hasn't been played much).
Detracting features not covered above: None. This is a superb example - the records sound excellent and I doubt you could find one which looks better.
Please check out my other items and take advantage of reduced postage costs for multiple buys.

Information about descriptions.
My items are always described accurately and fairly. I always do my best to point out any blemishes which might detract from the item and all photographs are of the actual item you will get.
Play-graded vinyl: I play grade records where possible but I don't have time to play them all. I always state in the listing if I have played a record prior to describing it.
Visually-graded vinyl: Unless specifically stated in the listing, vinyl is visually graded. A visual grading will identify physical flaws (such as scratches) and can help determine whether a record has been cared-for properly. I always do my best to give a fair assessment of any visible marks on the playing surface, but a visual grading will not identify noise or crackle caused by non-visible sources. Most of the records I sell are between thirty and fifty years old and so it is likely that there may be some background noise even if they look perfect. Please see Terms and Conditions below for my refunds policy for visually graded records.

I have some very simple terms and conditions. Please read them and ensure that you understand them before bidding. Thank you.

POSTAGE & PACKING
I care about the records I sell and believe that they need to be carefully and securely packaged to ensure that they survive their journey through the post. Vinyl is removed from the sleeve for posting and the contents will be protected with rigid cardboard stiffeners. All packages are labelled "Do not bend" and securely sealed with "FRAGILE" parcel tape.
I support the use of recycled materials and so I may sometimes use recycled packaging. If you wish your item to be sent in entirely new packaging please let me know before paying for it. Thanks.

P&P charges
I try not to charge more for packing and posting your item than it actually costs me. I do not view P&P costs as a means of making money. But please remember it's not just the stamps - I need to cover the cost of postage and packing materials and associated fees and charges.
My prices are based on a weight of 550 grams (for a standard single LP, well packed with stiffeners etc). Depending on the precise weight of your parcel, you may end up paying a few pence more or a few pence less than it actually costs me, but if the amount charged by the post office is £2 or more under what I have charged you I will refund the difference.
Double LPs will be charged as two LPs, triple LPs will be charged as three LPs. Box sets etc will be charged according to weight.
