GENESIS - NURSERY CRYME
Gorgeous copy of this original and increasingly rare 1971 prog rock, and very early UK pressing, classic on the CHARISMA large "mad hatter" label, CAS 1052
There is no question that Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot were the pinnacle of Genesis' prog rock phase - each is widely accepted as a prog rock classic in it's own right and each has stood the test of time. And only on original 70's vinyl in condition as brilliant as this can the quality of the songwriting and musicianship be fully appreciated - that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! Goodness knows how many time I have listened to Nursery Cryme over the years but just playing it again on this 70's vinyl, which has obviously been barely played, still sends a shiver up my spine.

The condition of the vinyl is truly EXCELLENT+. Each side of the vinyl has retained it's original beautifully lacquered sheen and is a joy to hold. Under a bright light I could make out just a couple of small wispy hairlines and similarly difficult to find paper scuffs...these are nothing really and even under a bright light you will need to look hard to identify them. Brilliant!
Each label is EXCELLENT+. All writing remains perfectly defined with no nicks or markings. No discolouration, no unwanted writing, no nicks, just a couple of very faint spindle traces adjacent to the centre hole on each side.
The iconic E. J. Day textured gatefold sleeve is again EXCELLENT+. All edges remain rigid and nicely defined, including the spine where all writing is perfectly legible. There is no scuffing on either the top or bottom edges and the spine remains rigid, though there is just some very mild rubbing at the top and bottom corners of the spine and this minimal scuffing continues for 1.5cm onto the bottom edge.And actually I have just noticed 1cm of mild rubbing, again on the bottom front edge, at the right corner. There is no fraying on the opening side. The texturing remains completely intact and the colouring of the iconic Paul Whitehead designed outer remains vibrant. It's a similar story for the inside of the gatefold where all the lyrics to all of the songs remain beautifully laid out. There is just a small, not immediatley noticeable, surface crease on the right side and a couple of nicks towards the bottom on each side. There is nothing of any real significance to detract from the overall quality and condition of this magnificent sleeve - it's difficult to imagine that this is over 46 years of age.
Finally, the quality of the audio is EXCELLENT+. Great tone and clarity with no distortion either at higher volume or on the higher frequencies. I won't deny that there is the occasional hint of background static but this is no more than what you would expect on a brand new record such as this bought back in the 70's. Just sit back and enjoy.

Comes in original white inner with no tears or splits and still fully functional, but with just the hint of some minor age discolouration towards the edges.
In summary, a truly brilliant very early UK pressing of this increasingly scarce 1971 prog rock gem.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint
Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good
Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good
Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
Fair
Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor
