Extremely hard to find third Genesis album. Absolutely very scarce these days on the Pink Scroll label as most have been bought up now. I hadn't seen one for over two years before this one turned up!! 

"Harlequin" was written by Mike Rutherford, who was a bit dismissive about it in his autobiography The Living Years, saying that Nursery Cryme was not an easy album to make, blaming it on the departure of his original songwriting partner and lead guitarist Anthony Phillips. The song was his attempt to play both the duo's parts on a single 12-string guitar by tuning the pairs of strings to harmonies. He describes the results as "pretty dodgy", also disliking use of the word "harvest" in the song. The song features three part Crosby, Stills & Nash-styled vocal harmonies of Rutherford, Gabriel and Collins.

On offer here is a VERY rare LP (especially in this condition!!!!) by GENESIS called "nursery cryme" and is an ORIGINAL 1971 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press CHARISMA PINK SCROLL label!!!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!  THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST LPS ON THE CHARISMA LABEL AND VIRTUALLY NEVER TURNS UP FOR SALE!!!!  JUST TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!!!!  BACK IN 1971 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED - IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS, AND WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DELETED!!!!  AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!!!  JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE PICTURES!!!!  

Vinyl: VG+. They don't come around in this kind of condition very often. This vinyl has only been lightly played.  No marks just two very wispy hairlines and the obligatory retraction paper traces as seen under a strong light source. This is the ultra heavy first press vinyl with "HILTOP" etched into the run-out groove. On replay it only gets better. Great strong stereo separation with near silent (no crackle etc.) replay.  NO jumps, NO skips, NO sticks etc.

Gatefold sleeve: EX. Again this has to be seen to be believed. A properly looked after textured sleeve with just storage wear on the top and bottom edges. Otherwise in time warp condition with superb rich colours. This looks like it came just from the printers.  It is in splendid overall condition without any damage at all. The inside gatefold is likewise as if just bought over the counter. The LP belies its considerable age, now 50 years! No writing, no stickers etc. and also benefits a beautiful crisp opening and 100% legible spine. The pictures tell all. The sleeve has no creases!!  

Although not a success at home upon its release Nursery Cryme became an unexpected hit in Italy, reaching No. 4 in the LP charts.[1] This spurred on Genesis' European success, with the album eventually reaching No. 39 on the UK charts for one week in May 1974, and the reissue reaching No. 68 for one week in March 1984.

"For Absent Friends" is a song about two widowed individuals going to church and praying for their deceased husbands/wives. This is the first song to feature Phil Collins as lead vocalist. Progressive death metal band Opeth wrote a short instrumental with the same name, as a tribute to Genesis on their 2002 release, Deliverance. Guitarist Steve Hackettrecorded a waltz version of the song for Watcher of the Skies: Genesis Revisited, with vocals by Colin Blunstone.
