Background..........

Cover - some experts (like the website above) claim that the Garrod & Lofthouse manufactured cover is the first pressing of this LP - while others claim that the E J Day cover is the first pressed. It doesn't really matter who's right but one thing is for sure, the G&L cover is by far the rarest. The one on offer here is the only one I have ever seen - whereas I have owned many E J Day covers. It is almost impossible to find a G&L cover and Genesis collectors regard this as highly collectable and certainly the rarest. Most covers offered on ebay are James Upton 2nd or 3rd pressings which, generally, are of little interest to Genesis collectors.  

Labels - just to make this particular version even more interesting, it comes with mega rare 'transitional' labels - which I have never ever seen before - see scans. Side 1 has a label with the smaller Mad Hatter - his right hand is above the spindle hole. Side 2 has the earliest larger Mad Hatter with his right hand adjacent to the spindle hole. Side 1 has "Marketed by B & C Records Ltd" at the base and Side 2 has "Manufactured and Distributed by B & C Records Ltd" at the base.

An absolute must for serious Genesis collectors -

I doubt you will ever see this combination of a G & L sleeve coupled with transitional labels ever again.

Cover: Excellent. No writings, doodles or seam splits. Nice clear spine. Just a couple of marks in top right corner of front cover. No insert. Unlaminated non-gatefold cover made by Garrod & Lofthouse  - stated on the rear cover - see scan. States  "Marketed by B & C Records, 37 Soho Square, London W1" just above the G&L credit.

Vinyl: Not play tested but looks to be VG+ - just some light feathering. Would benefit from a clean to bring back to its best - not played for many years.

Labels: Excellent+. Mega rare 'transitional' labels.

Gradings.......

Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
