Genesis : Trespass A2/B2 1st Press 'Pink Scroll' Label

This very collectable album on the famous 'Pink Scroll' label plays with a clarity, warmth and depth that is as close to perfect as is possible.  The sonic quality on both sides is incredible and the only 'background' are a small number of very quiet dull sounds at the start of S2.  Believe me when I say they are so light and barely intrusive.  This is so close to a FINAL UPGRADE album and it is clear it has only been played very infrequently.  The audio and minimal spindle wear certainly do confirm that, it really is a stunning first press.

The fully textured cover is in superb condition with hardly any wear (a genuine rarity) and that again pays testament to how well this album has been cared for.  The lyric sheet is in excellent shape with only light creasing and the original inner is also in excellent condition.

This is also one of the earliest first pressings as it has a single R stamper on both sides.  Based on the GRAMOPHLTD system you can see just how early it is when you think only 300-500 records were pressed with each stamper.  There cannot be many around today as stunning as this with such an early stamper!

Visual grading

The vinyl is visually stunning and still has an immaculate glossy sheen where all the grooves are really so clean.  At first glance it looks 'new' and only on close inspection can I see a couple of very faint hairlines and one extremely small and faint mark on S2, it is not easy to find!  S2 is superb and S1 is superb and then some!  This is without question one of the finest examples of this first pressing that I have ever seen and the famous Charisma labels are also in lovely condition with no marking and only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

The vocal intro on 'Looking For Someone' begins perfectly with no 'background' and in fact the entire opening section can accurately be described 'as new', the audio is phenomenal.  As the volume increases this standard is maintained and from then on the clarity and power is stunning.  The audio is so deep and precise this can only have been played a handful of times over the last 50+ years.  I cannot overstate how unbelievably good the sonic quality is!  Every high octane section plays with sublime power and depth and every quiet section plays with perfect clarity.  This has to be finest version of this opening classic that I have ever heard and Mint is an easy grade.  What a start!

'White Mountain' plays to the same 'high end' standard I am delighted to say.  From the gentle intro and then through every vocal and instrumental section there is no interference to be heard.  As always I play each track in full so as to provide a 'complete' grade and there are no ticks, clicks or pops and no static either.  A couple of barely audible dust ticks but in essence this is as 'clean' as it was when first played in '70!  The end section beginning with the 'whistle' is a prime example of that - the clarity is just out of this world and the vocal 'hum' is equally as good.  Another STUNNING Mint track.

The piano intro on 'Visions Of Angels' plays to perfection and the opening vocal has no 'background' either.  It continues to play with exceptional quality with no sign of any interference.  The mid instrumental is so strong with no distortion and the remainder of course does not disappoint.  I cannot believe the sheer quality of the music on offer here - there is literally no intrusion on the audio and Mint is again 100% deserved.

The intro on 'Stagnation' plays very clearly with no ticks or clicks but there is a very quiet dull sound once per revolution of the record.  This continues into the first vocal for a few seconds although at this point it is barely audible.  I am just 100% honest and this 'sound' is in no way intrusive in my opinion as it is so darn quiet!  You could easily miss it.  The first very quiet instrumental section plays beautifully and the up tempo section then plays with flawless precision.  The following vocal is 'as new' and it continues to play with breathtaking quality.  There is one light tick a little further but that hardly qualifies as interference.  The final quiet passage is so clean and the end section closes the track with imperious quality also.  I will grade the intro as Ex+ (even that may be a little harsh!) and the rest as Mint- that is a fair assessment of the audio.

'Dusk' plays with incredible clarity from the get go and opening vocal sections do not let the side down.  From start to finish there is no interference, not even any background static, and this easily grades as Mint such is the sonic quality.  The vocals are so 'clean' and every note is so sharp and precise.

The classic intro on 'The Knife' is faultless and Gabriel's opening vocal has never sounded stronger.  From then on it plays with supreme power and depth...and no interference.  The quiet mid instrumental plays with perfect clarity and as it builds there is no let up in quality.  Phillips' solo then plays like a needle has never run across it before and the closing section is just as impressive with a power and definition that could be any better.  For once there is no inner groove distortion which is another sign that this vinyl has hardly been played.  I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint and it may well be finest version I have ever heard on any pressing!

In summary this very collectable first pressing on 'the famous Charisma' pink scroll label plays with sublime audio on both sides with no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static.  The clarity truly is outstanding and the only 'background' is the first few seconds at the start of S2 but even then it is so minimal and hardly intrusive, many would not mention it I am sure as it is just so quiet!  The sonic quality is on another level and it is patently obvious this record has only been played on 'high end' equipment and on not many occasions and remember this is one of the earliest first pressings with a single R stamper on each side.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to find this classic album with audio such as this and together with a superb cover and lyric sheet it would add to any Near Mint/Mint collection.

The Gatefold, Lyric Inner & Inner Sleeve

The fully textured cover is in lovely condition with no obvious wear at all.  The edges have only very minimal rubbing and the wide spine is near perfect with only the lightest of wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are also very clean with barely any wear and the opening edge is again close to perfect with only a couple of minor 'crimps' near the top.  The front cover is perfect with no marking and the back cover is almost as good with just one very small rub near the top edge.  The inside of the gatefold is in fantastic shape with no marking or creasing which makes a change!  A stunning example overall.

The lyric sheet (so often missing) is in excellent condition with no marks and only light creasing and the original paper inner has no side splits and just light creasing and a handful of tiny spots on one side.
