THET STARTED life under the guidence of Jonathan King before, wisely, ditching him and going after the prog rock crown on their own. Signing with the newly inaugerated Charisma label and with original drummer John Mayhew in tow the band goyt down to serious musical business by creating 'Trespass', one of the most seriously comples and demanding progressive rock albums of the entire era. True, they were finding their feet but the scale of composition and the gravatis of musical execution makes for some mindbending listening.
The cannon of material contained on this record is staggeringly comprehensive. From 'Visions Of Angels' through 'Stagnation' to their first true epic the nine minute long 'The Knife', the intention is to create a soundscape of magnificence, a backdrop that would allow Gabriel adequate room to execute his MO to stunning effect.
Truly one of the greatest progressive rock albums of the seventies and so hard to find as an original Pink Scroll 1st pressing in such wonderful condition.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: Charisma, UK, 1970 - Orig Pink Scroll label
Vinyl: Superb clean and shiny condition. A few spindle marks on both labels and only the faintest signs of any use. One visible scuff side two causing slight audible click for a handful of revolutions. Otherwise totally near mint. Downgraded to Ex+ for accuracy.
Cover: Again, practically no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated textured gate fold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfectly straight, uncrushed and wonderfully square. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 38 years after release. Grades as shop fresh MINT-!
