GENESIS - From Genesis To Revelation ORIG Decca LP SKL 4990 (UK, Stereo, 1969)
Happy to present the original 1st press UNBOXED Stereo of this rare debut LP from the band that would go onto great things. All the 1st press components are in place here: the front laminated single sleeve with rear peephole (in great condition for once!), the unboxed wide band Decca labels, the stereo blue margin poly-lined inner and the Robert Stace printed lyric insert.

The front laminated Robert Stace sleeve is way above average. How many times has this LP come up for sale, where the vinyl is satisfactory but the sheer black sleeve is creased and tatty, spoiling the package?? Well no fears here - apart from 2 or 3 handling creases, some mini-spine creases and light handling marks on the rear, THIS IS VERY FRESH!! There’s not even much of the customary ring impression you usually get on the rear. What you get is a strong, perfectly legible and unsplit spine (with just one or two mini-creases), a very shiny front laminate with no lift or peel, strong opening edges with next to no feathering, NO appreciable edge wear or corner wear, NO writing or stickers, NO appreciable ring wear and a strong mono/stereo rear peephole with NO nicks or tears! MUCH BETTER THAN THE USUAL STATE OF THIS SLEEVE AFTER 40 YEARS!! Must grade Ex-(Excellent Minus) - surely one to please and worthy of housing this important 1st press disc.
The dark blue wide band unboxed 1969 labels are as good as you could hope for with no fading of the colour, no writing or stickers, no residue and NO tears or other damage. A lovely pair of these vintage labels!!!
The red printed lyric insert is fine, but with one corner crease, soft creasing to the middle area and a (very) faint stain to the top edge.
The blue-banded correct stereo inner is in great nick with NO splits or tears and bar one established corner crease, not even any real creasing. The inner poly lining is secure too!
The medium weight vinyl comes in at around 140 grams and is in a great condition that should not disappoint!! Visually, there’s only 2 light hairlines (not easily visible and not long) some ultra small scuffs and a short surface mark to Side 2. These are the only visual blemishes away from a Mint- grade. There’s no ugly, obvious or deep marks to the vinyl and therefore it must grade a GENUINE true EX (Excellent). Many would say EX+!! IT HAS CAREFULLY BEEN LISTENED TO, and bar 2 light ticks to the first track on Side 1 and around a dozen light ticks to the beginning of ‘One Day’ on Side 2, plays near to perfect with NO loud pops, NO hiss, and NO distortion or loss/lack of clarity. There’s not even any real crackle, just occasional surface static in the very silent parts. Plays a genuine EX.
The lost first Genesis LP did not sell in great quantities in this, its first press and release. Not until 1971 did the band sell any number of records and although this stereo is more common than the mono, it’s SO HARD TO FIND IN ALL ROUND GREAT CONDITION LIKE THIS! Low start and no reserve!!
