Description
GENESIS. Trespass Charisma CAS 1020. 1970. This is the earliest possible version of this LP with all correct characteristics of the 1st pressing at the date of release :
· “Full textured” cover has correct wide spine, later copies were much narrower.
· Scroll label has “lower case”, smaller 1970 credit.
· Matrix A-2U B-2U
· Stampers are single letter values – R and O (stampers 2 and 5)
· Green lyric inner sheet

Grading: -
Outer Sleeve: VG
The wide spine gatefold sleeve is graded as VG condition. There isn’t a great deal in the way of damage or significant wear, but the cover has the odd stain here and there, and the spine has some generally light to moderate rubbing but the vast majority of the original colours are still showing on the spine. The top edge has more in the way of general rubbing, but the bottom edge is much better with only a light amount. The inside of the gatefold is generally clean, the centre is raised slightly either side of the centre fold but hasn’t deteriorated in any way. There is a very small and reasonably faintly written name “T.R. Sinclair” at the extreme top left of the inside cover.
Overall despite the points noted above, it remains a nice example of this extremely fragile sleeve. The very earliest copies with this wide spine are often found in extremely poor condition and the spine has often been crushed or worn extremely badly - I can honestly say this is one of the better copies I’ve ever seen.
Vinyl: VG+
The vinyl is in VG+ condition, and is a nice copy with a light to moderate amount of feint hairlines and a couple of fairly small but only slightly more noticeable hairlines on side A. However, I found myself nearly grading this at EX-, as it’s a nice copy which was further confirmed when I play tested it.
Vinyl Audio – EX- to EX
Superb playback when played throughout on my setup. There is the occasional small noise audible here and there but on the whole it plays really well and is a thoroughly enjoyable listen. There is no discernible distortion on my setup and the music sound dynamic and clear. Not a mint copy, and some background noise is occasionally audible, but in no way does this interfere with what is a really good listen!

Nice and clean with no writing or other damage and perfectly clean.
Inner Lyric Insert: EX-
The delicate green lyric inner sleeve is in EX- condition and is clean without tears, writing or other major defects. It shows light signs of handling only and is a really nice example.
Overall, this is an extremely rare version of this record. Later versions, even with the Pink scroll label, are far more common with a narrower spine or larger 1970 date, so to find the very earliest example is rare indeed. What’s more it’s a nice copy and whilst it displays some signs of wear, it has still got a lot of life left in it! The disc sits and rotates flat on the turntable.
Please note I grade conservatively. No overblown, overhyped description. I describe as I see.
Postage and Packing:
All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping. Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers. My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
