GEORGE HARRISON All Things Must Pass (Apple STCH 639) RARE UK 1st Pressing + Poster MINT!
RARE very first UK pressing of George Harrison`s mesmerising solo debut "All Things Must Pass" on Apple Records (November 1970). With the textured box 'MADE AND PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN' and featuring the large George Harrison poster 'Printed in Great Britain', this copy is from one of the earlier UK batches of "All Things Must Pass".
"But the heart of All Things Must Pass resides in its songs of spiritual acceptance. The title was thought to refer, among other things, to Harrison's former band, the likely subject also of the elegiac "Isn't It a Pity." The haunting "Beware of Darkness" suggests the inner fears -- "The hopelessness around you in the dead of night" -- that Harrison's religious searching was meant to calm. And "Awaiting on You All," the title track and "My Sweet Lord" (for which Harrison was successfully sued for "subconsciously" plagiarizing the Chiffons' "He's So Fine") capture the sweet satisfactions of faith.
Sonically, All Things Must Pass finds producer Phil Spector in top form. In order to bolster the confidence of the "quiet Beatle" -- and compensate for the thinness of his voice -- Spector employs strings, horns, multiple guitars and swelling background vocals. This gentler Wall of Sound not only makes the most of Harrison's melodic flair but matches the aspiration of his songs with arrangements that seem to rise to the very heavens. - Very early original UK box, "Made and printed in Great Britain" (inside lid, at bottom).
- Small crease in bottom edge, as well as in the right edge of front lid.
MINT- INNER SLEEVES in near-perfect condition.
- Original coloured and textured inner sleeves/lyric inserts with small "Printed in USA" stamps (at bottom right).
- Inner sleeve for Record Two (tawny-coloured) with a small seam split at bottom.
- Other than that, all three inner sleeves are practically perfect.
- All records in additional MINT polylined inner sleeves.
- Includes the original giant 24" x 36" poster of George Harrison, "Printed in Great Britain" (at bottom right) in MINT- condition.
MINT(-) RECORDS in absolutely as-new condition: Bought new in the 1970s by original owner and never played!
- Perfect vinyl on all six sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- Original first pressing Apple Records labels with no spindle wear whatsoever.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read as "YEX 817 - 1 U" and "YEX 818 - 1 U", "YEX 819 - 1 U" and "YEX 820 - 1 U", as well as "YEX 821 - 1 U" and "YEX 822 - 1 U".
- Mothers/stampers read as "3 / GOR" on Side One and "3 / GRP" on Side Two, "1 / GAA" on Side Three and "2 / GAM" on Side Four, as well as "3 / GGA" on Side Five and "3 / GRM" on Side Six.
- This three-record set is fully certified to be a very first UK pressing of "All Things Must Pass", released in November 1970.
