Description
Up for auction is a very nice copy of the classic George Wallington Quintet album "Jazz For The Carriage Trade" released on Prestige Records (PRLP 7032) in 1956. This is an original, mono, deep groove, first pressing. RVG in the run-out. First issue "framed" cover with no titling (printing) on the spine, as it should be. All matching W.50th St., NYC addresses on labels and back cover. Features the brilliant work of Phil Woods and Donald Byrd. The cover presents very nicely. Generally, this cover is very prone to wear, especially ring wear and discoloration for some reason. Not this one. Front retains its nice glossy lamination, no separations, lifts or losses. No ring wear. Corners look good, though a little bit bumped, but not much. Seams are strong and intact, no splits or cracks, but there is some rubbing loss to upper couple inches of spine. Small chip loss to lower left corner (see photo). Back cover is in really nice shape, no ring wear, no writing, no age discoloration. Retains most of its bone white original appearance. One small discoloration mark right side on near spine (see photo). Other than that, a really beautiful cover, one of the nicer ones you'll come across. I'd grade the cover EX++ (Excellent Plus Plus). The vinyl is also in very nice shape. Retains lots of its original high gloss shine. Does seem to have a few "adhesion" marks on the faces from being stored in the original onion paper inner sleeve all these years. This seems to be very common for many Prestige albums that retains those sleeves. But those marks do not affect the play back in any way that I can hear. There also are some very superficial faint hairlines from taking the album out of the inner sleeve. These, too, cannot be felt, nor do they affect play back. That said, this disc presents as a very clean copy, not near mint, but just a bit below that. I have play tested this record and the sound is fantastic on my mono system. The run-in grooves to each side have surface noise, but the second the music comes on, the background fades away, and the music is undistorted, full-bodied mono fidelity. A really nice sounding record with little, if any, distractions to speak of. I'd grade the vinyl visually and audibly EX++, just to be on the safe side. I'm sure others would grade it slightly higher. Either way, a beautiful copy. 100% satisfaction guaranteed, no risk buying, or your money back, no questions asked. This is one of the nicest copies of this record I've come across in years--maybe the nicest.
