WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Polydor Records very first Stereo press released by Polydor Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1973 by Discos Philips (Philips Records), licensed from the Deutsche Grammophon Ges., Germany, catalog number 2393 019, with machine etched matrix number 4 Ⓟ 1971 F 71 ◊Z 00 2393 019 S1 8 in Side 1 and 3 Ⓟ 1971 F 71 ◊Z 00 2393 019 S2 8 in Side 2, with traditional orange/black Polydor Records labels, with black “Polydor” logo at top. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Georges Moustaki” was originally released in France in 1971 and we had to wait a bit to see this album because it was released here in Chile in 1973, and like usual in that period, we got it with an UNIQUE Non- Gatefold COVER, made of a single piece of thin cardboard folded in the middle faking a gatefold cover and kept inside a plastic bag. Front cover keeps strictly the original French artwork, with the black and white picture of Georges Moustaki, the only difference is that here in Chile they added the name “Moustaki” at top right corner, below the catalog number. Back cover is totally different, it only has the album title, the name “Georges Moustaki”, and the tracklist written in Spanish, translated to French (except “Margot”, which’s a name), with full credits for songwriters and additional credits for Hubert Rostaing for arrangements and musical direction, with Polydor Records logo at top left corner and catalog number at top right corner. In labels, the song titles are written in Spanish, translated to French, except the song “Margot” already informed not translated in back cover, with full credits for songwriters and additional information about licenses and with credits for Hubert Rostaing too. If you know the discography of George Moustaki and this record, then you could have already noticed that in original French issue the song number 6 of Side 1 is “Margot (Instrumental)” but here in Chile they decided to put the song “Nous Sommes Deux”, originally the song number 4 of Side 2, and song “Margot (Instrumental)” is the fourth song of Side 2. Something interesting about this LP is that some past owner had the idea to paste the cover to a real flipback cover and it looks like and feel like a real and solid flipback cover, it has worked really well and only at back cover, in the mouth edge, you can notice the kind of work that person did, really good. And this issue included the French lyrics of all songs in 5 sheets of paper, with credits for the musicians who played in this album and omitted in both cover and labels. I don’t know if these sheets were originally included in the LP or if someone took the time to write them, but they are present and as you can see in the pictures, in almost immaculate condition and with two errors, the name of the guitarist Joël Favreau is misspelled “Joel FAUREAU” and the name of violoncellist Jean-Charles Capon is misspelled “JEAN CHARLES Capon”. So, here you have the chance to get and own this classic album by Georges Moustaki in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS with UNIQUE COVER and different order of 2 songs, and with Spanish-written song titles and with FRENCH LYRICS, a record rarely seen and maybe auctioned here in eBay by the very first time, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of French Folk and Chanson music and especially for all fans, lovers and collectors of Georges Moustaki!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great VG+ or EX- condition, clean and clear, with some wear in all edges, more evident in corners and in the bottom right corner and the mouth edge of front cover, with tears easy to see, with evident age browning in back cover, with faint creases and blemishes, but as you can see, it’s complete and free of marks of any kind. The record is in strong NM- or NM condition both sides, glossy and clean, with minimal light scuffs and very soft hairlines, hard to see at very first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels are in superb EX+ or NM- condition both sides, clean and clear, with minimal spindle hole wear and a number written by some past owner in Side 1, but partially faded. The sound is in strong EX+ or NM- condition both sides, loud, clean and clear, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with only minimal and occasional mostly barely audible soft crackles and light clicks here and there, which don’t really cause any major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER, EDITED TRACKLIST, Spanish-written song titles and French lyrics, maybe not for the strictest Minty minds or audiophiles, especially considering the cover, but for sure it’s still a record with a really nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and great sound quality after about 53 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean record. Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
