True first pressing in tip-on sleeve (brown cardboard-colored inside, unlike later ones which are white inside) and with a two-sided lyrics insert instead of a printed inner sleeve. All original pressings (1st, 2nd, and probably beyond) have no text along spine of sleeve.
This was purchased in 1980 in either Bloomington IN, Indianapolis, or possibly Waxtrax in Chicago. Probably Bloomington. Played a couple dozen times or so on WQAX at I.U. Then taken out to Los Angeles (owner promptly hit Slash up for a job, was turned down by Claude Bessy, but still got to hang out with Bob Biggs a little bit), then to San Francisco, then back to Indiana. Always well maintained and stored properly. Not played a bazillion times, and very rarely in the last decade or two. Not for at least 5 years until just prior to this sale.
Vinyl has been gently washed and also cleaned repeatedly with a Discwasher. It would be nice to send it through a Spin-Clean but, alas, there isn't one handy. Sounds GREAT! Of course the production was superb. The vinyl has a few tiny factory glitches but they're not audible. There's a minor scratch (about .5" long) at the end of Side 1 which is briefly audible at the end of the track. Labels are unmarked & undamaged except for a couple spots on side two due to handling. (To put the record on the turntable, one holds it with a couple of fingers on the bottom label, the edge of the record between the thumb and index finger. To flip it over, it's held between the palms.)
Please see the photos. Front cover has minor ringwear. Left top corner has been compressed/dented/creased with a small tear at the tip. Left bottom corner slightly bent but a 3/8" tear through the sleeve. Spine in between has a few little pockmarks but is otherwise intact. Fair amount of scuffing on bottom of sleeve, top is much better of course. Edges of the sleeve opening a little scuffed. Rear has about half the ringwear as the front, otherwise in great shape. Inner sleeve is slightly creased, a bit yellowed. Lyrics insert is in excellent condition, a few fingerprints on Side 1.
Owner got to L.A. about 6 months after Darby's death so never saw the Germs. Did see Pat Smear with Twisted Roots a few times, perhaps some other odd gigs. Shmoozed with him once outside the liquor store catty-corner to the Whiskey A-Go-Go. Pat was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the Foo Fighters recently, y'know. Owner was a big 45 Grave fan so has seen Don Bolles play with them buncha times. Put out a 3 Day Stubble video with Don on it. Slightly acquainted Facebook friends nowadays. So you get a connection with a couple of the musicians too, albeit intangible.
