Description

Absolutely gorgeous copy of the original 1957 pressing of the Gigi Gryce - Donald Byrd Jazz Laboratory At Newport LP on Verve MG-V-8238. The Cecil Taylor Quartet is on the B-side. This is truly a fascinating and wonderful album that foreshadows the directions jazz would take in the 60s, with a fresh-faced Donald Byrd taking over in Gryce’s group for the recently departed Clifford Brown, and Cecil Taylor giving us some of the earliest hints of free jazz. Really a spectacular recording that is surprisingly ahead of its time. Original deep groove pressing on the trumpeter label. The disc is very nearly perfectly mint and plays just about flawlessly and truly beautifully. Maybe the tiniest scuff here or there but barely anything at all. Really an incredibly beautiful copy. The cover has a 1.5” seam split at the top, and a bit of light fraying at the spine, but barely. The corners are all just a tad rubbed, but not much at all. Really it is a beautiful cover overall. A truly top, top original copy, very hard to beat.
