Description

Up for auction is a rare, clean copy of the Gigi Gryce album "The Rat Race Blues" released on New Jazz Records (NJ 8262) in 1960.  Features the incredible trumpet work of Richard Williams.  This is a guaranteed authentic and original mono, deep groove first pressing, with RVG in the dead wax.
The cover is in beautiful condition, with the front lamination retaining its high gloss original shine, no ring wear, no bubbles, no tears, no separations.  Seams are strong, intact, no cracking, no flaking, no creases, no splits.  Corners looks sharp, though upper left is slightly bumped.  Back cover is super clean, bright, bone-white.  No writing, no ring wear, no age discoloration.  Very small factory inspection stamp in upper right corner.  I'd grade the cover Near Mint (NM).
The vinyl is also in top condition, with no obvious scratches, scuffs, or marks on it.  Retains its original high gloss luster, very shiny.  Labels are clean and unmarked.  Looks like an extremely well-cared for record, with few, if any signs of previous handling or play.  Play tested, the record sounds clean and clear.  No background noise to speak of.  But as with most New Jazz record pressings, it doesn't play audiophile perfect, but as close to a clean New Jazz pressing as you're going to find. The mono sound is great, full-bodied and rich.  Hard to imagine you'll find another copy as nice as this one.  Virtually impossible to upgrade.  Exceptional condition.  This album rarely comes up for sale.  Don't miss out on this one.
