Description

GIGI GRYCE - GIGI GRYCE ORCHESTRA / GIGI GRYCE QUARTET

1957 US jazz rarity with impressive sound quality

Year/Label : 1957 US SIGNAL Label number : S 1201 Matrix numbers :  S-1201-A, S-1201-B (with "RVG" stamped on each run-off)
Solid very good (VG) condition vinyl - weighty and completely flat and displaying a lovely jet black sheen - in normal daylight both sides of the vinyl come across as excellent, and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that some small wispy hairlines and very light surface scuff marks come into view - nothing obvious, feelable or nasty and nothing to impinge upon a great listen, and most defintely mostly superficial only but blemishes nonetheless. Note the early press stamped "RVG" on each of the run-off's synonymous very early pressing.   Excellent (EX) condition labels with just a few extremely faint spindle trails next to the centre hole on each label, otherwise perfect.  Good plus (G+) condition original thick cardboard outer sleeve : do take a good look at my photos where I have tried to show a detailed and honest appraisal of the condition of this sleeve - the front and reverse sides remain in very nice condition and very presentable, but there are splits along the entirety of the top side and half of the bottom side. The spine remains firm (as do all sides) but there is significant scuffing and the spine text is illegible. There are also a few very light handling/storage marks on both sides. However, the highlight of this copy is not the sleeve - it is the mono sound quality...excellent (EX) mono audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, distortion or interference and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum (a little very light background crackle for a short while duing A2). There is silence during the dead wax run-in's and run-off's and the only clicking is the odd singular click or the very occasional few rotational clicks - all very, very background and not impacting upon the enjoyable listening experience. Excellent tone and clarity with clear MONO sound quality throughout and each and every track remaining a great listen, and little wonder with these jazz legends in such great form : Gigi Gryce (Alto Sax), Art Farmer (Trumpet), Cecil Payne (Baritine Sax), Bill Barber (Tuba), Horace Silver (Piano), Art Blakey (drums), and others! Comes with new all-white poly-lined inner sleeve.     An overall nice condition and presentable copy of this 1957 US mono repress jazz rarity with the impressive sound quality being the highlight
POSTAGE COSTS :

For the UK £3.38 using Royal Mail tracked 48 (ebay's "simple delivery");

for continental Europe £12 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked,

and for the rest of the world £18 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked.

I do provide posting and packaging discounts for multiple purchases. I make no profit from postage.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 55 years from a variety of sources : my own collection, friends and family, car boot and garage sales, door-to-door leaflets, and even through placing an advert in my wife's shop window! My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I will sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy. If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige. There is NO RESERVE on this item. Richard
