MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original CBS Records very first Stereo press released, made and distributed in Argentina in 1980 by DISCOS CBS S.A.I.C.F. (CBS Records Argentina), catalog number 23.233, with machine etched matrix numbers ASS 5614 in Side A and ASS 5615 in Side B, with traditional orange/black CBS Records labels of the period, with white “DISCOS CBS” at top and solid center. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“What’s In A Kiss” was released in the UK in August 1980, with song “Down, Down, Down” as Side B but in Argentina, and as far as I know only in Argentina, this single was released with song “Things That Go Bump In The Night”. Song titles are written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for Gilbert O’Sullivan as songwriter and for Gus Dudgeon as Art Director, with additional information about rights society, play time of each song and album which these songs were taken from: “This song is included in the LP 20.186 ‘OFF CENTRE’” in Spanish. In this copy you can see a rounded black and gold “CBS” sticker in Side A. I was said that sticker was used for some copies for promotional purposes, but I’ve never seen this sticker before, so I don’t really know if it’s true or no, but the sticker is there. Maybe the most interesting fact about this single is in the play time of “What’s In A Kiss”, it’s informed 2:35, as informed in the US version of the single, but as far as I know this single was released in USA in January 1981. In the LP “Off Centre” released in USA the play time is 2:36 and in the LP released in Argentina the play time is 2:37, just like in the original LP released in the UK. But the single released in the UK has a play time of 2:29. One or some few seconds of difference don’t really mean much, but it’s curious to notice this, because the play time 2:35 corresponds to the US version but this Argentinian version was released before. And the credit for Gus Dudgeon as Art Director is UNIQUE, because in all singles he’s credited as Producer. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE ARGENTINIAN PRESS of this classic hit by Gilbert O’Sullivan, ONLY RELEASED IN ARGENTINA, with SPANISH-WITTEN SONG TITLES and UNIQUE CREDIT for Gus Dudgeon, a record rarely seen and by the very first time in eBay with the “CBS” sticker (!!!). A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Soft Rock/Pop music of the ‘70’s and especially for all fans, lovers and collectors of Gilbert O’Sullivan!!!

This record doesn’t have a cover. The record is in nice EX+ or NM condition both sides, glossy and clean, with only some faint scuffs, hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great NM- or NM condition, clean and clear, with only minimal spindle hole wear and some discoloration in the “CBS” sticker. The sound is in strong EX+ or even NM- condition the Side A, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise, with only occasional and barely audible soft crackles here and there, more evident in the last seconds of the song, and in VG+ or EX- condition the Side B, loud, clean and clear, with constant soft crackles, more evident in the first seconds of the song, some occasional light clicks here and there and a very soft hiss at the last seconds, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is still a great record by Gilbert O’Sullivan, in this MEGARARE and UNIQUE ARGENTINIAN PRESS, with SPANISH-WRITTEN SONG TITLES, UNIQUE CREDIT for Gus Dudgeon and with “CBS” sticker, ONLY RELEASED IN ARGENTINA, maybe not for strict Minty minds or audiophiles, but with a nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and great sound quality after about 43 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Argentinian single ONLY RELEASED IN ARGENTINA!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
