SLIPPING INTO DARKNESS / ALTA MIRA ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by THE GIMMICKS produced by LEIF CARLQVIST . Original German pressing on the POLYDOR label (2121 156), from 1973. Superb euro funk by the legendary Swedish vocal group. Our copy is the obscure, German picture sleeve single (strangely released a year before their Music Is What We Like To Play Lp). By far their funkiest moment on wax and maybe the best Gimmicks single after their Bermuda Inn / Make Feel Good grail. Features a thunderous version of War's SLIPPIN' INTO DARKNESS rare groove anthem. Surprisingly heavy sounds by the cult group more famously known to record groovy latin psych and bossa tunes. On this 7inch, it's all big soulful harmonies over killer drums and funky basslines / wah wah / psychedelic flute and horn stabs. All the female vocals are sung in perfect English with an American slant (the guy singing, sounds more like the dude from Krautrock group, Roundhouse). Great for DJs with booming production sound. The b-side ALTA MIRA is cool too (much more in a west coast US rock vein) with lots more funky beats and infectious rhythms. There is a Swedish promo out there (released in a generic Polydor sleeve) but we prefer the extra visuals of the German issue with fabulous group shot of the band. To be filed beside the afro funk version by The Funkees :) Rare 45!!!

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG+ condition (closer to VG++) with some hairlines and faint scuffs. Some groove wear in the deadwax to both sides but most probably due to the actual pressing. Some light surface noises. Booming production sound. A few soft pops / ticks (as you can hear on our soundclip) The delicate, textured soft card picture sleeve is in strong VG+ condition (closer to VG++) with light general wear from storage. Corner wear / mini nibble to the front bottom left area. Some ring creasing from storage. Partly faded, distribution ink stamp to back sleeve (see photo). Some wear marks / rub marks to edges. Rare 45!!!

Please feel free to contact us with any condition queries you may have preferably before bidding. We will get back to you asap.
