Questa è la 2^ edizione della notissima messa di Marcello Giombini, in chiave beat per voci maschili, chitarre elettriche, basso, organo e percussioni. “La Messa dei giovani” è la prima della sei messe da lui composte e rappresenta forse il suo capolavoro in àmbito religioso E’ inoltre la prima messa beat nella storia della musica religiosa (prima edizione: 1966), in quanto precede di ben tre anni la notissima “Mass in F minor” del gruppo americano Electric Prunes. Negli anni precedenti Giombini aveva composto moltissime canzoni di musica beat. Volle utilizzare questo genere musicale, molto amato da giovani degli anni ’60, anche nella musica sacra, fino ad allora rimasta molto legata alla tradizione e poco aperta alle innovazioni.

Esistono più versioni di questa Messa, fra cui un’edizione in lingua inglese. A differenza della prima edizione (eseguita da più complessi musicali) l’edizione che vi propongo è stata interpretata dai soli Barritas, probabilmente nel 1968, valorizzata dall’accompagnamento musicale dell’orchestra di Mario De Santis. Al termine è stato inoltre aggiunto il brano “Non uccidere” (in memoria di Martin Luther King).

This is the 2nd edition of the Marcello Giombini’s famous Mass, in beat style for male voices, electric guitars, bass, organ an percussions. It is the first of his 6 masses and, perhaps, his marvellous in the religious ambit. “La Messa dei Giovani” is too the first beat mass in the religious music history (1st edition: 1966); infact it precedes about three years the “Mass in F minor” by Axelrod's Electric Prunes. During the precedent years, Giombini has already composed a lot of beat songs. He wanted to use this musical style, very loved by the 60’s young people, in the holy music too, always remained chained at the tradition and closed for the innovations.

There are many versions of this Mass, includes an US edition ("The Mass for Peace" by The Berets on 1969). The edition now I’m purposing to you was performed by the group “I Barritas” only (while the 1st by 3 groups), probably in 1968, increased by Mario De Santis orchester. At the end was added the song “Non uccidere”(Don't kill), written in memory of Martin Luther King.
