DULCINEA (INCANTESIMO D’AMORE)

directed by Vicente Escrivá (Spain, 1962)

Aldonza, poor campesina of Toboso, loves Don Quixote, whose exploits were narrated by a puppeteer. She puts on his search, and she encounters him on the point of death, while miscalling her Dulcinea. Suddenly she identifies herself in the character, making hers the virtues of the real Dulcinea, to the point of climbing at the stake as a witch, although not to confess his true identity.

Inspired by the play Dulcinée (1938) by Gaston Baty (which was, with J. Copeau and J. Dullin one of the great innovators of theatrical directing in France) was already transposed on the screen by Luis Arroyo in 1946. It is the 2nd feature film by the catalan director V. Escrivá, novelist and screenwriter of the first row during the Franco regime, which intended to propose a poetic film, keeping an eye on the cinema of Dreyer and Bergman. The result is of intense poetry thanks especially to the American actress Millie Perkins, as beautiful as a “Madonna” of Murillo. Jacket :    EX  

Slightly laminated paper cover, in EX condition, sharp corners, perfect seams and spine with NO wear and NO RING WEAR on both sides. Lower right corner has suffered a light bump, still visible in the remaining crease.

Vinyl :   VG 

The shiny vinyl looks  maybe played a couple of times.

Unfortunately the vinyl has suffered a crack of 1 cm along the rim which has been sealed and glued, by both sides. Although the integrity of the vinyl has been preserved the crack still causes some repeating pops which can be heard on the 1st track of both sides (Dulcinea titoli and Berceuse). The rest of the tracks could be graded as EX

GRADING CODE

Grading is VISUAL, under a bright light. 

        NM  (Near Mint): Record has been opened, and probably played, but is in impeccable condition. I do not use "mint".

EX   (Excellent): Has signs of use or storage, but still considered top collection quality. Jackets may display some very light wear; vinyl may have a few light sleeve marks only visible in the highest light. Sound will full and clear, with little if any noise (NOTE, some records are just pressed poorly).

VG+ (Very Good Plus): Still a great copy but has a bit more wear. Vinyl may have some light scuffs or scratches, but nothing deep. Jacket may have some ringwear or seamwear. Sound should be great, with minimal if any noise.

VG  Very Good): A great play copy but clearly used. Vinyl will display many hairline scuffs or scratches, but will play with a tolerable amount of noise. Jacket may have splits and wear but will not be falling apart.

VG-(Very Good Minus): A used or worn copy, that has not been taken good care of. Vinyl will have many scuffs or scratches, but play through enjoyably despite audible background noise. Covers will have tears, splits, writing, or other issues. 

 G  Fair, Poor: A very rough copy. Will play through without skipping unless otherwise noted, although records of this grade are sold AS-IS.
