THE HEALTHY FOOD BAND aka LA BANDA DEL CIBO SALUTARE Lp by THE GIOVANNI TOMMASO ORCHESTRA. Original Italian promo pressing on the RCA ORIGINAL CAST label (KOLS 1015), from 1971. Super-obscure and desirable session featuring the best Italian jazz musicians of the period with American soprano sax player, Steve Lacy. An indulgent, pet project led by cult bassist, Giovanni Tommaso of Indefinitive / Indefinite Atmosphere Sermi Library fame. Superb, funky lounge / modal jazz / spiritual and progressive movements played-out by crack studio session men including I Marc 4 hammond king, Antonello Vannucchi / Cicci Santucci / Dino Piana / RRC Droga Library guitarist, Silvano Chimenti / Piero Umiliani's funkiest Soundworkshop drummer, Gege Munari / Gato Barbieri etc etc. Because this session is still practically unknown to many Steve Lacy collectors, our soundclip opens with a beautiful, modal jazz theme and finishes with a similar sounding tune played in a blues mood. Of course, all the funky trax are present too as we recorded most of the Lp :) The session is basically a continuous suite but please note, we have edited parts around for our soundclip. An item also classed as a prog rarity in Italy with big price tag to match (probably due to Chimenti (?) but for us, it's more of a conceptual lounge jazz masterpiece built around the key players (Lacy / pianist Franco D'Andrea etc) from Tomasso's Sermi Library. Lots of phased psychedelic FX to the instrumentation and groovy themes galore with cool breaks and funky beats. Promotional-only release too. Stunning pop art collage sleeve design by Up & Down Studio with hippie / peace and love influenced images dotted around the photos of the musicians on the back sleeve. Very rare Lp!!! Full tracklisting: SMILE THE BOSS IS HAPPY / APPETIZER / MIXED SALAD / THE BAND BURGER (part 1) / HUNGRY / THE BAND BURGER (part 2) / EASY NOURISHMENT / COUNTRY FOOD / COOKED BLUES / HORS D'OEUVRE / ITALIAN PEARS (part 1) / CLASSICAL SAUCE / CANNELLONI / ITALIAN PEARS (part 2) / FIVE POP FOUR PUDDING / JUST THE END (PLUS THE END)

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is in strong VG+ condition overall with hairlines. Some very faint, old pressing residue marks. One thin scuff line across side 1 with mini scratch causing some soft ticks in the middle section. Light surface noises. Superb production sound. Some soft pops and soft ticks here and there (as you can hear). Small white sticker to label. The soft card sleeve is in VG++ condition overall and still retains most of the original shrinkwrap. Some light wear to exposed areas where the shrink has torn. Natural age disoloration / ring wear and dirt marks from storage. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare Lp!!!
