Gladys Tyler With Ray Scott And The Scottsmen, A Little Bitty Girl (With A Great Big Mountain Of Pride) b/w Only The One You Love, Decca 31991, pink label promo. Year of release is 1966. This is a listing for a sensationally hot Northern Soul and Popcorn record that everyone wants. Just check out the sound bytes! Gladys Tyler is sensational with Ray Scott And The Scottsmen! My favorite is the B side, Only The One You Love. This record has a problem. I believe that it has been polished. It might not appear so to most collectors, but to a trained eye it does. The record visually and play grades in VG to VG+ condition although under ordinary lighting it could pass for VG++. Under a powerful high intensity lamp, however, small marks can be seen that suggest that the record may have graded VG to VG+ before someone tried his hand at restoral. So, I will give it the VG to VG+ grade, still. Most luster is remaining. I am just not sure how much of it is original. The luster doesn't appear objectionable, though, and I must say that for a polished record, this one fared rather well. An additional sign that the record may have been polished is that the vinyl (The record is made of vinyl and not styrene) is extremely thin and flexible, more so than what was typical of the era. This one seems to bend much like an RCA Dynagroove LP of the middle or late 1970's. Sound bytes are provided to enable you to evaluate the play grade yourself as well. The record is definitely original and not a boot (There were none from what I understand). Numbers are machine stamped in the dead wax virtually guaranteeing authenticity. On the Little Bitty Girl side there is a slight loss of label paper above the horizontal bar and record number. There is also a glue stain surrounding the area where the paper loss appears that suggests that a price sticker was removed. Nevertheless, the labels make a nice appearance. This record is for someone who wants a reasonably nice sounding rare record, presumably without having to spend an arm and a leg to get a near mint copy. The sound bytes were recorded flat with no equalization, noise reduction, click, tick, or pop removal, or any other type of sound processing. Don't let this rare gem pass you by! The record was play graded on an audiophile system employing Basis Ovation, Graham Industries, Transfiguration, Sound Applications, and Jeff Rowland componentry.
