Description
Beautiful copy of an original 1956 first pressing white-label promo of the all-time classic recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations played by Glenn Gould, on Columbia ML-5060. This was of course the recording that made Glenn Gould famous, and really opened the floodgates for the baroque revival of the 60s. Anyone who hears this album, even someone with no experience with classical music, can tell it is a very special performance... one of the greatest classical recordings of all time. This is a very rare copy, with white “Not for Sale” labels with the original 6-eye logo. The disc is very nearly perfectly mint and plays just about flawlessly and truly beautifully. There are maybe a couple of the tiniest sleeve scuffs, but barely. Really this is a gorgeous copy. The cover has a seam split across the top edge, but the other edges are fine, with a perfectly readable spine. There is some light general shelfwear but overall still quite a beautiful cover. Comes with the original cardboard inner sleeve as well, almost like a second cover, featuring Gould’s notes on the music. This is truly a wonderful copy... so rare to find a promo, or any first pressing in this shape. Hard to beat.
