GLORIA BARNES 'UPTOWN' FIRST PRESS ON THE MAPLE LABEL.
Discogs have had only one copy listed in years it sold for £1020 , but amazingly one has just been listed recently and the buyer wants £2100 for it..and they may get it. without a doubt one of the rarest and thus hardest soul albums to find. A Check on popsike will show this album sold this year for £865 the next listing previous to this was in 2014 when only three came up for sale selling between £737 and £972 the next offering was in 2010 so going up in price as they get rarer to find and collectors file them away in their vaults. So how rare is it...Very rare.
So to this copy:
THERE IS NO COVER AND LABELS ARE DAMAGED!
. Sadly this was stored in a loft that suffered with damp (before I purchased it from an old Northern collector)..the cover beyond saving. The labels stuck to the insert damaging them too...what do you do with such a rare album..sling it?obviously not. it has scratches, the odd skips, pops and clicks mainly side 1 track 1.
It seems this album will sell for silly money in the future..so if you want a mint example it won't be cheap. At least I had a copy I was able to play and enjoy. I have quality jpeg files of the cover and both labels, my thought being to have them professionally printed and have mint labels and cover for Gloria..but then I found I didn't mind it as it was..made me appreciate the rarity more in a strange way. The album is an awesome reflection of soul and the Northern scene, with some beautiful soulful tracks..can you find a better copy..YES......will you find a copy that is not silly money, maybe not. So I am listing this warts and all at a no reserve start price of £1.... it will find it's way and sell for what it sells for. Please DO NOT BID if you want cd quality audio or a time warp copy..this is not for you..it plays like an old vinyl will..surface noise, pops, slight skips on a couple of tracks and clicks here and there..but it plays through.
I am very reluctant to grade it..I normally only sell Ex to nm..but this is so rare it's worth having in anyone's collection. Visually it looks pretty good with one or two surface scratches..like i said mainly on track 1 side 1. I don't have a deep vacuum cleaner but possibly something like a Moth washer would help. Please be aware I will NOT be offering refunds on this album as it does have issues..any doubts please do not bid. I have stated the issues as fairly as I can...
Sad to have to sell my vinyl but needs must. I need the funds and the space as I am moving onto a boat. So here she is, Gloria Barnes 'Uptown' on the Maple label first press..a rare beast indeed. I will place it in a poly-lined sleeve and then in a cardboard sleeve. It will be shipped in a purpose made hard card Musicmax vinyl mailer. Good luck.
