Last time Hot Chip man Joe Goddard featured on Permanent Vacation, it was in cahoots with label regulars Tuff City Kids (aka Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer). Eight years on, he's back with an expansive solo label debut. Title track 'You' is classic Goddard, with the London-based veteran blending dreamy and emotive Balearic synth-pop with thickset nu-disco grooves and nods to the heavier grooves of house. Fellow Hot Chipper Alexis Taylor lends a hand on the picturesque and emotion rich 'Hide & Seek', while Glyn features on the grittier (but no less vibrant) 'Cutting You Loose'. Goddard's fine songwriting and glassy-eyed vocals come to the fore once more on 'Human Endeavour', while closing cut 'Gentle Man', featuring Absolute, is a cheery fusion of warped lo-fi house, soaring disco and sensational synth-pop colour.
