Background............

Recorded in 1971 at Château d'Hérouville near Paris. Produced by Pierre Lattes and engineered by Gilles Salle. Jean Karakos ("BYG Jean Kastro Kornflakes") was Executive Producer.

The earliest 1st pressing release of CAMEMBERT ELECTRIQUE was in 1971 on the French BYG label.  BYG first pressings of this LP can be found on both the "BYG Black SACEM. T" label and the "BYG Yellow & Orange" label. It is generally accepted that the yellow/orange label is a slightly later pressing (maybe by only a few months) than the original black label release. 

The first few BYG Black label and the yellow/orange label pressings contained the album's lyrics plus drawings by Daevid Allen - printed on two (white print on a blue background) LP-sized inserts. These were intended to be folded into an 8-page A5 booklet - which this one has. These 1st pressing insert booklets are now incredibly difficult to find - especially in nice condition. A few UK 1st pressings of Camembert Electrique came with a reproduction of the original BYG booklet printed in black on a white background.  

The 1st pressing cover is a laminated (inside and out) gatefold cover and the 1st pressing inner sleeve is made of transparent polythene with a 'rounded' edge at the base and a straight edge at the top.

In summary, the one on offer here is the very earliest possible 1971 1st pressing of this LP. It is complete with the original insert booklet, laminated gatefold cover and its original inner sleeve. Not only that, it is all in fabulous condition!

Cover: Laminated 1st pressing gatefold cover is Excellent+. No writings/doodles or seam splits. Lovely clear wide spine. Beautiful sheen to the laminate. One small 2" crease line on rear cover and some light wear to edges/corners. The original inner bag is Near Mint. Stunning condition for 40 years old!

Booklet: Near Mint.

Labels: Near Mint. 

Vinyl: Play tested. Looks and plays Excellent to Excellent+. Lovely sheen. Lightly played and very well cared for. No skips/jumps. Hardly any background noise. Stunning condition for its age. Sounds fabulous!!

Gradings......

Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and more significant scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
